Long rumoured Wagamama heading to MediaCityUK, noodle lovers rejoice

Update (4th July): A Wagamama page now exists on the official MediaCityUK site - you can see it here, official press release here. The restaurant is to open later this year - apparently it will be early 2012 now.

Looks like Wagamama is going to be the next eatery to land at MediaCityUK, after a 'Notice of Application for the grant of a Premises License' appeared on site.

Tweeted by Mark Allen, the notice backs up rumours we've heard before on Facebook, and a vacancy advert for staff you can see here.

Media City bus service launches this Sunday

From Sunday the 3rd July the new 'QuaysLink' bus service will be up and running, getting you from Salford Crescent to MediaCityUK - and back again.

Funded by Salford City Council, TFGM and the University of Salford, the service will run every 10 or 15 minutes, from 7am-11pm Mon-Fri, from 8am-11pm on Saturdays, and 10am-6pm on Sunday.

The bus service will help connect Media City to central Salford, where it would previously take two buses (or a mixture of buses/trams and trains) to get down to the Quays.

BBC North Apprenticeships now open to applications

The BBC North apprenticeships scheme at Media City has today opened it's doors to applications.

The entry-level scheme is open to people with negligible or no work experience or qualifications, but only to those from the Greater Manchester area. You must be 16 or over, have left formal education, and be without A Levels or equivalent qualifications.

Applications close at midnight on Friday the 8th July (Update: it's now been extended to Sunday the 10th).

BBC announces Philharmonic festival at Media City

Today at Media City, Mark Thompson announced the line-up for its new BBC Philharmonic Presents… festival which will take place from 1-17 June 2011 in the orchestra's new home at MediaCityUK studios.

The two-and-a-half-week radio festival will celebrate orchestral music in its many different guises, by teaming the BBC Philharmonic with high-profile artists from diverse musical worlds ranging from dubstep to ecclesiastical.

Prezzo restaurant confirmed for Media City

Prezzo restaurant confirmed for Media City

Food chain Prezzo have signed a deal with Peel to open a new restaurant at MediaCityUK; their first restaurant in Greater Manchester.

Prezzo have a total of 165 restaurants across the UK and will be located on the ground floor of Orange Tower - overlooking the landscaped gardens and piazza.

Stephen Wild, Managing Director of MediaCityUK, said: “Prezzo is a fast-growing high street food brand known for delivering a wide range of fresh contemporary dishes at competitive prices”.

BBC Breakfast in Salford - 46% of staff say yes please

BBC Breakfast presenters Bill Turnbull and Susanna Reid are amongst the 46% in the yes camp, who today have confirmed that they will move to Salford Quays in Spring 2012.

25% of Marketing & Audiences who are in scope to move and 33% staff from BBC Connect & Create have also said yes to the move.

This brings the combined total confirmed as moving to Salford Quays – including staff outside scope who have volunteered to move since 2009 - to 55%.

BBC North is launching a new entry level apprenticeship scheme later this Spring - open to applicants from the Greater Manchester area only and focusing on the areas of digital media and technology.

From the very beginning BBC North has been committed to playing a role in the future economic prosperity of the North of England,” commented Richard Deverell, Chief Operating Officer, BBC North. “This new apprenticeship scheme is a unique and long-term initiative that will offer a real training opportunity in the Greater Manchester area, bringing new people into the BBC as well as strengthening and enriching the creative industries across the region.”

ITV finally confirms move to MediaCityUK, Corrie to be built next to Imperial War Museum

Peel Media announced today that ITV is to move its Manchester-based operation, including Coronation Street, to MediaCityUK.

Britain’s longest-running soap will relocate to a new state-of-the art production facility to be built on the MediaCityUK site next to the Imperial War Museum North. ITV staff, including the ITV Granada regional news team, will take up residence in offices on the Salford Quays side of the development in 2012.
